Yothu Yindi hail from the Yolngu (Aboriginal) homelands of the north-east coast of Australian's Northern Territory, country the Yolngu have occupied and protected for perhaps 40.000 years or more. The Yolngu members of the band celebrate their deep spiritual connections with the land, connections that are kept alive through song and dance and ceremony, public aspects of which are found within the band's recordings and live performances. Yothu Yindi have emerged at a critical time. As the world's indeginous people are swamped by the tide of industrialisation and pollution, the rape of the forests and the seas, as tribal lands are stolen and languages lost, the time is short. Since time immemorial the Yolngu and other indeginous people of the planet have lived in harmony with the land, ensuring a stable environment for future generations. Over the past century so much of that land has been lost, Mother Earth has been damaged. There are dramatic changes in the weather, rivers choked by industrial waste, skies heavy with pollution, lands stripped and left barren. As we negate the ancient wisdom of living with our environment and, instead, fight against it, try to tame it, we risk losing it. Time is running out. Our generation represents maybe the last chance to rescue Mother Earth, the last chance to learn from indeginous people who hold the lore and the law, to share knowledge and experience and create a world in which we can all live in harmony. Our life on Earth is in a precarious state, our capacity to sustain ourselves and survive has been greatly reduced. There is no time to be complacent if we are to save ourselves. It's time to explore different cultures and learn from them, to get active, participate and learn from those people who are at one with the Earth, who's philosophy is to live with Mother Earth rather than conquering her. Rural Guatamala, El Salvador, Honduras, Sri Lanka, Borneo, New Guinea, the Amazon basin and much of Ethiopia and Sudan are areas with predominantly Infant Souls; Iraq and Iran have them in increasing numbers. Planet Earth is close to the time when the last Infant Soul will incarnate.
